A rewarding career in healthcare awaits those who choose radiology as a profession. Radiographers, or radiologic technologists, have completed special training to produce images of organs, limbs and other parts of the body that doctors then use to diagnose and determine treatment plans for disease and injuries. Careers in radiography have become more and more diverse as the field of radiology has evolved from the discovery of the x-ray to complex and sophisticated scanning methods like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT). As the technology has expanded, there has been an increasing need for highly trained men and women to fill the varied positions available to radiologic technologists.

The field of radiography offers the opportunity to provide vital service as a key member of the healthcare team. The Radiography Program at Center for Allied Health Education (CAHE) has a long history of providing high quality training in radiography. The program is noted for the excellence of its classroom teachers and clinical instructors and students benefit from a full varied curriculum with both didactic and clinical experience components. Individuals receive the knowledge and skills necessary to provide superior radiologic service and thereby achieve great success in the field.

This Radiography program curriculum prepares students to sit for the ARRT registry examination, upon completion of all coursework. Pursuant to New York State Public Health Law, only licensed Radiologic Technologists may practice radiologic technology in New York State. A temporary permit to practice radiologic technology (pending an examination) is issued at the time of graduation. Graduates should take the licensing examination as soon as possible after graduating, since the temporary permit expires after 180 days. Click here for licensure requirements for all other states. The course of instruction follows the latest Standards for an Accredited Education Program in Radiologic Sciences as published by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

In order to graduate from the Radiography Program, a student must:
      1. Meet all academic requirements
      2. Meet all clinical requirements and attain all required competencies
      3. Meet all financial obligations
      4. Hold at minimum an associate's degree
      5. Periodically review radiation monitoring reports.
      6. Return radiation badge holder, swipe card, ID card, etc.

Students who have not fulfilled their graduation requirements have one (1) year from their originally scheduled graduation date to complete all missing graduation requirements.

Applicants who do not posses an associate degree or above will be required to apply to and be accepted into the Center's affiliated college: SUNY Empire State College. Instructions on doing so will be provided to applicants during the admissions process.

A C average - an index (GPA) of 2.0 - is required for graduation.
