Paramedic Program

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Center for Allied Health Education’s Paramedic Program is designed to prepare students to qualify for NYC REMAC certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic. Upon successful completion of the program, Paramedic class graduates will also receive BLS, ACLS, PALS and PHTLS certification. The course curriculum includes didactic and laboratory work, as well as clinical (hospital and ambulance) rotations.

The Center’s Paramedic Program is an approved National Registry Skills Testing Site and qualifies graduates to sit for the National Registry Written Exam

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

CAHE’s Paramedic Program is offered in a hybrid/online format. The Paramedic class features live, interactive lectures, utilizing robust online technology and is accessible from any device, giving our students the flexibility that they need. Upon enrollment of the Paramedic class, students receive free iPad to facilitate lectures.

The Program is 12 months in length and follows a convenient schedule, aimed to accommodate work schedules and provide more flexible schedule options to students.

Students are required to complete 596 hours of clinical rotations on ambulances and at clinical sites. The program is offered to residents of NY, NJ, PA and CT. All lab sessions and clinical rotations occur in New York. For eligibility in other states, please contact our Admissions Department at 718-645-3500.

STUDENTS MUST MEET ALL OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO GRADUATE FROM THE PROGRAM:

Meet all academic requirements

Meet all clinical requirements and attain all required competencies

Meet all financial obligations

Return their swipe card, ID card, etc.

Receive certification in BCLS, ACLS, PALS and PHTLS

Successfully complete the current version of the following FEMA Courses:

  • IS-100
  • IS-200
  • IS-700
  • IS-800
  • IS-5 (NYS Requirement) or a HAZWOPER First Responder Awareness Level (National Registry Requirement)

Students have twenty (20) weeks from the originally scheduled graduation date to complete all missing graduation requirements. Upon successful completion of the entire course of study and meeting all financial obligations, individuals will be eligible for graduation and the subsequent:

  • National Registry Skill Exam
  • NYS DOH EMS Written Exam
  • Application to the National Registry Computerized Exam
  • NYC REMAC Certification Exam

Students must hold a NYS EMT-Basic certification when enrolling in the Paramedic program. Upon graduation, students will receive a certificate of completion and are prepared to sit for the certification exams administered by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) and/or New York State Department of Health Bureau of EMS. The NYS Paramedic Certification is required to begin work in this field within the state(s) where students are currently located. Click here for certification requirements for all other states. Upon graduation, students who would like to qualify to sit for the National Registry Exam administered by the NREMT will be required to provide proof of having completed the HAZWOPER course offered by OSHA.
